The Salt Pig is a proudly Purbeck-based business dedicated to bringing the very best of Dorset’s farmland and coastline to the local community. From farm and sea to plate and counter, we champion exceptional local produce that is traceable, affordable, and sustainably sourced.
Founded by local farmer James, The Salt Pig began with a simple idea: to create a business where people could easily access honest, locally produced food from Purbeck farmers, fishermen, and growers. Over the past decade, that idea has grown into seven locations across Dorset, alongside our butchery, meat boxes, cafés, outdoor catering, and campsite at Putlake near Swanage.
Set in the charming village of Langton Matravers, just outside Swanage, The Salt Pig Farm Putlake is a welcoming, family-friendly working farm where farming, food, education and play come together in a relaxed rural setting.
It is a working farm with a variety of animals including Mangalista cross Berkshire Pigs, goats and White Park Beef, sheep as well as ponies, donkeys, alpacas, chickens, ducks, turkeys and guinea pigs.

The café and restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a strong focus on locally sourced, seasonal produce, alongside a farm shop offering Purbeck meats, local cheeses, groceries and deli items, plus an on-site butchery providing quality cuts and meat boxes, including pork from the Salt Pig The Farm’s own rare-breed pigs.
The Salt Pig, Wareham was the first Salt Pig location started back in 2008, with a simple goal of providing local produce to the Isle of Purbeck community and beyond.

The Pebble Pig is a relaxed, beachside café set at Chesil Beach and is an ideal place to warm up, refuel, and rest.
The cafe serves a fantastic breakfast and lunch including made to order meals, ready to go food from the hot plate & a selection from the salad bar, as well as a banging Sunday roast.
The Forgotten Salt Pig at Tyneham, is a pop-up café set within the remarkable surroundings in The Isle of Purbeck, one of Dorset’s most atmospheric and historic locations and offers a relaxed place to pause and refuel, serving coffee, hot and cold drinks, and simple, locally focused food.
Our cosy cafe is the perfect place to visit whether you’re coming in to meet for coffee, wine, cake and lunch or fueling up ready to explore the newly transformed Poole Museum. Or you simply might be looking for a comfortable space to enjoy a coffee whilst replying to your work emails or take a break from a day of exploring Poole.
