camping at Salt Pig Farm

The Salt Pig Farm at Putlake offers relaxed, family-friendly camping just minutes from Swanage and on the Jurassic Coast.

When you roll up here you’re free to choose your own pitch and settle in at your own pace. Off-ground firepits and barbecues are welcome for those laid-back evenings. Facilities include toilets, token-operated hot showers and a washing-up area, plus a small on-site farm shop stocked with everyday essentials, firewood, kindling and basic camping supplies.

At the heart of the farm is the much-loved café, serving great coffee and local produce for breakfast and lunch. On selected evenings, the offset smoker, barbecue and pizza oven are fired up—so after a day exploring the coast, you can skip the cooking and relax with great food and a local cider, real ale or glass of wine.

With a network of footpaths and a bus stop just opposite the campsite, exploring the Isle of Purbeck couldn’t be easier—whether on foot, by bus, or by car. There are car-free walking routes to Swanage (around 40 minutes on foot or a five-minute drive) and to the historic village of Corfe Castle (approximately 1 hour 15 minutes walking or 10 minutes by car). A popular option is to walk out through the countryside and hop on the bus back, making it easy to enjoy longer routes without worrying about retracing your steps.

The campsite is perfectly placed for relaxed evenings out. Just up the road is The King’s Arms, a welcoming local pub with a cosy beer garden. A five-minute drive (or bus ride) takes you to The Square & Compass, a much-loved pub known for its character and local ales. Also around five minutes away, The Scott Arms in Kingston offers great food and truly spectacular views across to Corfe Castle.

With its long sandy beach and shallow waters, Swanage is a classic seaside town and ideal for families. Spend the day on the beach, then enjoy fish and chips in Prince Albert Gardens while taking in views of the Victorian Pier and Swanage Bay. Or visit our sister Farm Shop and restaurant, The Salt Pig Too, for breakfast, lunch or supper. Or enjoy a sauna at Swanage Sauna on the beach front. For something a little different, hop aboard the heritage Swanage Railway and travel through beautiful countryside all the way to Corfe Castle and beyond.

History lovers can explore the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle, managed by the National Trust. For a day on the water, head to Studland Beach Watersports or their wood-fired sauna huts for or head to Wareham Quay (20 minutes’ drive) to hire a boat or take a river cruise. Thrill-seekers will love Dorset Adventure Park, home to an inflatable water park and muddy obstacle trails.

Or enjoy a Seaweed Spa Bath next to our Sandy Salt Pig beachside cafe overlooking Studland Bay and Old Harry Rocks.

Families can visit The Tank Museum (about 25 minutes’ drive) to see historic armoured vehicles, or Monkey World to meet rescued primates. Iconic Jurassic Coast landmarks such as Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Kimmeridge Bay, are also on your doorstep.
